YOUNG BASADZI - i still write

I know quite a lot of people are anxious about the book ‘I Write’ - believe me, I am beyond anxious! My patience has been tested to its limits with this project and I am forced to ask all of you to go through this journey with me.

This literally means that our second project :‘On Dreams’ is on hold – and I would like to apologise profusely to the keen contributors of this collection.

Margaret Thatcher (in Observer, 4 April 1989) once said, and I quote: 'I am extraordinarily patient, provided I get my own way in the end.’
From a once-powerful leader, I know and am confident that the book is worth the wait!

On a much lighter note:
If you are in Durban, the Bat Centre ( 031 332 0451) is alive with the arts. You can catch me at the opening session showcasing visual arts exhibitions by Kwazulu Natal’s top sculptors as part of the R.E.A.P. initiative by the Bat Centre in collaboration with the Dept of Arts, Culture and Tourism KZN.

The programme runs until the 26th March where there will be poetry, music(Simphiwe Dana), fashion, arts exhibitions and a whole lot more...

I will also be partaking at the Time of the Writer(4 – 9April, in Durban) where Mari Pete and I once again team up in the launch of Muthal Naidoo’s JAILBIRDS AND OTHERS on the 6th, April at 18h30. The book is so delicately written and I am most honoured to be part of this.

Most interestingly, on the 7th, April between 10h00 and 15h30 – I will be at the publishers’ forum where we tackle some of the issues pertaining to the writer/publisher relationships.

In the meantime - have a blessed Easter weekend, and please feel free to mail us: basadzi_inc@ananzi.co.za.

YOUNG BASADZI - 'i write...'

The book is to be introduced for the first time at 'Time of the Writer' festival held in Durban-South Africa, early April 2005.

I would like to thank the young women who have enthusiastically contributed to this publication. You can all pride yourselves in your phenomenal work because this dream-book would not have been possible without you. For you, the aspiring writers – let this publication be that step in getting your material ‘out there’.

The Writers:
Nompilo Ntuli, Hale Tsehlana, Khutsang Maroba, Neiloe Khunyeli, Phomelelo Machika, Khanyisile Magubane, Bulelwa Basse, shameeyya neo waMolefe, Rose Mokhosi, Pumeza Tyoda, Karen Ijumba, Bandile Gumbi, Dineo Luthuli, Lisemelo Tlale

This collection will certainly give you glance into our thoughts, our experiences, our lives. I hope it is some source of inspiration for young black south African women to dream, to live and be the best we can be – it is time, OUR time!
